I think it would be a great work to think about what people need. Actually, sometimes they themselves even don't know what they really want. They cannot figure out how a new technology works, so the inventor should be a leader, predict the needs, and fit the demands. Yes, to predict. All of the new inventions and fashions have to be predicted, and they come up to our lives. In my History of Western Dress class, it said that the designer have to grab the trend, guess what people like, promote the new style, and that could be the fashion. At this view, fashion is not really lead by customers. They just decide whether they accept a new thing but not invent by themselves.

So what is the demand? It's something like a puzzle. And what is supervening necessity? That is a long term demand, and quite not the same as fashion. But the prediction is still the main point, and the life of a production depends on whether people really need it. With a whole new technology, additionally we have to persuade people to adopt it. So if you get the right way, you will succeed. If not, you'll fail. That's why supervening necessity is so important. Just like the computer industry, no one would think that so many people need computers like now when the computer was just use for "computing."

This thought is on the contrary side of U&G theory. Maybe that is because I'm using the sight from the inventor and U&G is from the customer. Both of them can apply to my study this quarter, which is the technology of the animation. Nowadays, there are more and more performing types of animation, and people would find out what they want and search the informations of it. On the other hand, the animation producers will think about what kind of films would customers like to watch, so they have to guess. But they still can give some new ideas and lead the viewers gradually. Many people have their image of the animation and hard to change it. So let them realize the fineness of animation step by step, not so fast. Until then, we can develop many types of the performance or genre, and then viewers can have more choices to get what they want and satisfy. That could be a good way to prevail it.
