Here is the emoticon I showed in class. Actually Taiwanese doesn't use them all. They usually use only some of them while chatting. For me, I use no more than five. Here are the popular ones:

You can treat it as a kind of smile face. Almost every Taiwan BBS users know what XD means, and it is the emoticon which communicates the most. Besides XD, orz and 囧 are used very much in Taiwan, but these take time to explain their meaning.
