My online experience 11:38 PM

Wow, I'm glad that I know most media that the article "Communities in Cyberspace" mentioned, such as IRC, MUDs, and the BBS, which is popular in Taiwan. Maybe many people think that BBS is such an old medium, but it is one of the important ways Taiwanese communicate, including me. Although the interface of BBS is simple, it is more convenient than World Wide Web because of the speed of browsing and the regular system. Actually, the BBS is so great that I cannot understand why people in the other countries don't like to use it. Maybe they don't like to chat in this asynchronous way I think, but as for me, this non-instance responde could provide the space and time to organize what I want to say so I like it.

Besides BBS, I often play online game, too. Though my schedule is quite different from Taiwan, I still can play with my friend, even now. MUDs is the root of the MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game), so the online game systems nowadays are developed from MUDs and they are more and more improved by now. They are not just go adventure and beat monsters now; the new concept of the game is player could gather the sources from the nature and produce the weapon by themselves. Thus, the economic system of the virtual world coming out. I have to say it helped me a lot to study the economics, and it is really interesting when I see the price of items floats. The scale of an online game is more and more like the real world, and the virtual world can be served as a part of real world. They talk, they dress, they trade, and they can go anywhere with their friends. It can be the same as the real world because it is still consised of people and becomes a community.

However, there is still difference between the real world and cyberspace. Besides the terms of conflicts the article mentioned, I think there is one more important difference, that is we cannot receive one's tone. I remember someone said that 80% of one's message passing relies on his tone and facial expression. So we can find that when the internet seperate the people, we still cannot receive the real meaning of the message and that might be misunderstanded, especially the personality in the cyberspace could be different from which appealed in the real world.

The internet gives an effective way to communicate with others, but there are several diffculties that we have to overcome. Although I am used to chatting in this way, I still want to meet friends face- to-face if possible. After all, it is the most natural way of the interaction.
